Sobriety is a race.
Many people try to jump into sobriety straight from an addiction, but end up tripping or relapsing because they expect to much to fast. When your running a race for the first time you can't expect to beat everyone by a mile! You also can't sprint for miles on end. Like they say...It's that slow, but steady pace.
Often times someone will try to take on the huge behemoth of recovery by themselves, but I believe recovery is something that must be achieved with support. When someone is new to sobriety they will expect themselves to start seeing results of a new life, job, ect... right away. They must remember these things are just a benefactor of reaching recovery, but with support!! Chemical dependency counseling is that support people are looking for as well as an addiction treatment program!
Honestly, the race will never end. The only time people will see a form of winning is when they wake up the next day and can look back and say they stayed sober the day before. " Your worst day in Recovery is far better than a day in addiction." If you are winning the race today, will you help others catch up?
