Oxycontin, Dependence, and Addiction PDF Print E-mail

Not very lovely words to start an article, but pressing non the less. Over the years the use of Pain Killers has increased dramatically. In a recent article on PegasusEct.com I talked about the increase in pills over Psychotherapy. For the past decade people have been turning to the use of anti-depressants and Oxycontin over an alcoholism treatment program and chemical dependency counseling.

Pain Killers generally include a chemical called Oxycontin, which is highly addictive. What happens is, someone is prescribed an amount, then they start taking it, then a small Dependence forms. Its hardly noticeable because your brain is just wanting more of the euphoric feelings, temporal anxiety relief, and pain killing. Then comes the worst part…

Addiction.

This is when the person no longer wants the Oxycontin or pain killer, but they think they need it to survive. Then an addictions counselor is in order and the person must go through the hardships of relapse and recovery.

So many times this is so avoidable! Chemical dependency counseling or at least speaking with a counseling graduate before grabbing prescriptions could sometimes save months of pain and struggles. Centaur University proudly helps students achieve a counseling certification to help people make the switch from using the quick satisfaction, of pills and Oxycontin, to chemical decency counseling that can change a life completely.
